ASSU threatens to start a new strike actions

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have cautioned that it will continue its suspended strike because of the non-payment of the salaries and alleged exploitation of its members. This was contained in a speech delivered by the Chairman, University of Ibadan branch of ASUU, Prof. Ayo Akinwole, on Sunday, March 14, 2021.

In regard to the union, the new attitude of the government towards its union was against the previous arrangement entered by the two gatherings before the suspension of the 9 months strike on December 23, 2020.

ASUU questioned why some of its members were still owed salaries of between 2 and 12 months in spite of the agreement with the government, calling attention that more than 100 lecturers were yet to get payment for the 2 months at the University of Ibadan, with lecturers in certain colleges not getting any payment since February 2020.

The association requested that Nigerians to condemn the government for not fulfilling their promise, if universities are closed down again.
