Gov. Seyi Makinde appoints new Chancellor of LAUTECH

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has appointed Umar Farouk Umar II, Emir Katagum, Azare, Bauchi, as Chancellor of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho.

The letter of appointment signed by the governor, handing the designation over to the emir, states that the university wishes to benefit from his extensive experience as a prominent administrator, community leader, and traditional ruler.

Umar Farouk Umar II was appointed as an emir on 14 December 2017 following the transition of his father Mohamed Umar.

Governor Seyi Makinde congratulated the new Chancellor, saying the appointment was worthy and a call to serve humanity.

“The government of the state of Oyo expects that the university will gain from your rich knowledge and experience to realize the university’s unique vision,” the governor said.

Emir Katagum the new LAUTECH Chancellor, who has a bachelor of art degree in history from Bayero University in Kano, has held various positions in the civil service.

He rose to the position of Federal Permanent Secretary and served at different times as Permanent Secretary, Special Duties at the Presidency; the Ministry of Youth Development; Water Resources and Solid Minerals Development, before retiring after 34 years of service. (NAN)
